The
Aeros Phantom is a development of the Stalker rigid wing, with a new planform
to increase aspect ratio, and a number of improvements that benefit glide,
sink rate and handling. One of the many unique features of the Phantom is
the aileron system for roll control, which gives a huge advantage over lift-dumping
spoileron devices. Spoilerons also tend to "suck" upwards at high
speeds, which acts as a barrier to high-speed high-efficiency soaring flight.
The Phantom suffers no such problems, and therefore retains a much better
glide ratio at high speed. Also, the Phantom retains a high level of pitch
stability, removing the requirement for a draggy and unsightly tailplane.
New for the Phantom is the addition of a rigid-wing Variable Geometry system (RVG), which lowers the ailerons to reduce washout and improve efficiency during high-speed transitions. This very effective "Turbo" mode significantly lightens pitch force requirement at high speed, without sacrificing the inherent safety level.
